Marisa and Josh

How did you meet?

We met in 2011 at the Ivy Sydney. I didn’t feel like going out that night as it was a Friday night after work, but my girlfriends pushed me to go out. Josh was working that night at the Ivy. I spotted him and his piercing blue eyes as he was walking towards us to serve us a bottle of champagne. I said to my friend, “There’s something very special about that guy!”. He thought I was gorgeous and didn’t think I would be interested in him, yet he still asked my friend for my phone number as she hinted to him that I was into him and that he should go for it. That’s how it all started!

How did he propose?

The proposal came out about on the day of my cousin’s wedding, March 12th 2023. I had gone out to the city to get my make-up done for the wedding, then when I arrived home I could hear the song ‘Let’s Get It On’ by Marvin Gaye as I walked up the stairs but didn’t think anything of it. When I made it onto our rooftop I saw Josh was dressed up in a suit with balloons and flowers behind him. I was in complete shock, and then he got down on his knees and said to me, ”I don’t want to go to your cousin’s wedding today as boyfriend and girlfriend I want to go there with my fiancée and future wife. Will you marry me?!!!!”. Of course, I said “Yes!”

Describe the journey of finding your dream dress and your experience in The Sposa Group store.

I had the pleasure of working with the wonderfully talented Yusra who helped me find my dream dress! It was so easy because I was able to get my whole dress customized and a have the grand train made extremely long (almost 4 metres!!). I am so fussy and a perfectionist, I wanted it to stand out and be made to suit my vision. I even had a glitter tulle layer added.

What made you fall in love with your wedding dress?

I felt like a Disney princess when I tried on the dress and that was my dream!

What advice would you give to the future brides looking for a wedding dress?

Wait for that “WOW I feel like a princess” moment. The moment you feel like a that, you know you have found the right dress. Enjoy the process and don’t stress too much like I did.

Describe the wedding day.

It was truly a fairytale wedding filled with love, magic, romance and everlasting memories that will stand the test of time. We had a horse carriage with two white horses that arrived at the Sheraton Grand to pick me up. It felt so magical. The Cinderella horse carriage was definitely one of the highlights.

When I walked down the aisle at St Mary’s Cathedral it felt like the moment I was waiting for my whole life: To marry the love of my life, Josh. I wish I could relive that moment. After the church ceremony we had our reception at Le Montage which looked stunning thanks to Natalie at Bling Events! We were surrounded by endless candles, flowers and chandeliers.

How did you feel wearing your wedding dress?.

I felt like a real-life Disney Princess. I didn’t want to take it off.

What was a highlight of the night?

The entertainment was a big highlight! We had ballerinas, an Alta violinist in a princess gold ballgown performing on a high platform, and Jacob Hacklany performing his signature R&B tunes.

Would you recommend the Sposa Group Store to future brides?

Yes! Yusra my bridal stylist made the whole process so enjoyable, and she was so funny and welcoming too. I didn’t feel rushed into making a decision which is what I found with a lot of other bridal stores.
